Holonic Architectures
Systems where every part is both a whole and a component — and how that shapes multi-agent design.

The concept of a holon — something that is simultaneously a part and a whole — is a powerful lens for designing multi-agent systems. Rather than rigid hierarchies, holonic architectures allow fluid reorganisation. Each agent maintains its own coherence while contributing to a larger pattern.
In practice, holonic design means building agents that can function independently but also compose into larger structures. Boundaries between agents become permeable interfaces rather than hard walls. State flows between levels, and emergence becomes a feature.
